Nieuwsbrief april 2021, Stichting monument Nagasaki
Geachte nabestaanden, alle betrokkenen en belangstellenden,
Graag willen wij u informeren over de huidige stand van zaken omtrent het monument Nagasaki en de website http://Fukuoka14b.org
Monument Nagasaki:
We zijn zeer verheugd dat we u kunnen mededelen dat op maandag 12 april j.l. gestart is met de bouw van het monument voor alle krijgsgevangenen van kamp Fukuoka 14b te Nagasaki.
Wat 6 jaar geleden begon als een idee, is nu werkelijkheid geworden en de eerste spade is in de grond geplaatst.
Trots en oprecht dankbaar zijn wij op allen, die zich met hart en ziel hebben ingezet om dit monument mogelijk te maken.
In onze nieuwsbrief van januari j.l. hebben wij aangegeven dat op 4 mei 2021 het monument gereed zal zijn. Door de aanhoudende Coronacrisis, kunnen we dit helaas niet groots vieren, maar zal er een kleinschalige voltooiingsceremonie worden gehouden. Wij wilden proberen om hiervan een livestream verbinding op te zetten, zodat deze online te volgen zou zijn. Echter door het grote tijdsverschil tussen Japan en Nederland, is dit helaas niet mogelijk. Ons alternatief is dat er een video en foto’s worden gemaakt en dat die, direct na de voltooiingsceremonie, naar ons opgestuurd gaan worden. Via de website http://Fukuoka14b.org zullen deze beelden dan te zien zijn.
We hebben nog geen zicht wanneer de officiële ceremoniële onthulling van het monument kan plaatsvinden in verband met COVID-19. Hierover hebben we nauw overleg met de Nederlandse Ambassade in Tokyo. Onze voorzichtige nieuwe planning is september 2022. Voor diegene die hier graag bij aanwezig willen zijn, hebben nu ruimschoots de tijd om zich voor te bereiden op het plannen van deze reis en ceremonie. Als er meer informatie beschikbaar komt over mogelijkheden van boeken van vluchten en hotels, laten we het u zo spoedig mogelijk weten.
Op de website http://Fukuoka14b.org staan onder de button monument / nieuws, de foto’s en video’s van de start van de bouw van het monument, welke op 12 april j.l. heeft plaatsgevonden. Ook de nieuwsuitzending van NHK television, over deze gebeurtenis, staat op de site. Geweldig om te zien hoe het Japanse comité met alle vrijwilligers hieraan gewerkt hebben. Een fantastische joint venture tussen Japan en Nederland.
Inmiddels zijn wij bezig om de website verder aan te passen. Ook de bovenstaande informatie over de voltooiingsceremonie van het monument zal via de website gecommuniceerd worden. Hou vooral de website in de gaten over het laatste nieuws.
Heeft u nog ideeën of suggesties voor de website, dan horen wij dat uiteraard graag.

We would like to inform you about the current state of affairs regarding the Nagasaki monument and the website http://Fukuoka14b.org
Nagasaki Memorial:
We are pleased to inform you that on Monday, April 12, 2017 The construction of the memorial for the prisoners of war of camp Fukuoka 14b in Nagasaki has started.
What started as an idea 6 years ago has now become reality and the first spade has been placed in the ground.
We are proud and grateful of all who have put their heart and soul to make this possible.
In our January newsletter we indicated that the monument will be erected on May 4 and that a small, modest ceremony will take place due to the Corona crisis. We would try to set up a live stream connection of this, so that it could be followed online. However, due to the large time difference and agreements of the Japanese committee, this is unfortunately not possible. Instead, video and photo recordings will be made and sent to us. These images will be available on the website.
As for the official unveiling of the monument, we do not yet have any insight into this in connection with COVID-19. As soon as we get the green light from the Dutch Embassy in Tokyo, we will schedule a new date. In all likelihood sometime in September 2022. For those who would like to attend, can now amply prepare for this trip and ceremony. We will indicate well in advance what this will look like with the flights and with the booking of the hotels.

The NHK television news broadcast about this event can also be found on the site. Great to see how the Japanese committee worked on this with all volunteers. A fantastic joint venture between Japan and the Netherlands.
We are now working on further adapting the website. The above information about the completion ceremony of the monument will also be communicated via the website. Keep an eye on the website for the latest news. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the website, please let us know.
