Geachte nabestaanden, alle betrokkenen en belangstellenden,
Graag willen wij u informeren over de stand van zaken omtrent het monument Fukuoka 14b te Nagasaki en de website https://fukuoka14b.org/
Samenkomst nabestaanden en betrokkenen Landgoed Bronbeek:
Op zondag 4 februari j.l. hebben wij een bijeenkomst gehad op landgoed Bronbeek waar alle nabestaanden en betrokkenen voor uitgenodigd waren. Deze samenkomst was heel bijzonder met nieuwe ontmoetingen en kennismaking met nabestaanden die zich hadden aangemeld. We hadden een grote opkomst met 25 personen. Ook waren een aantal nabestaanden van de 3e generatie aanwezig, waar we erg verheugd over waren. Aanwezig was ook Michel Daeron, documentairemaker, die speciaal uit Frankrijk hiervoor overgekomen was. Hij is druk bezig met zijn documentaire over de 2e generatie atoombomslachtoffers.
Na introductie van de aanwezigen werd de bijeenkomst voortgezet met een welkomstwoord van de voorzitter, een lezing, door het Kizuna comité, over de geschiedenis van de krijgsgevangenen en hun ervaringen in het kamp en het vallen van de atoombom.
Daarna gaf de secretaris en penningmeester een powerpoint presentatie over het tot stand komen van het monument en de officiële onthullingsceremonie van het monument op 13 mei 2023.
Plannen voor 80e herdenkingsceremonie in 2025:
Na deze presentatie werden de plannen bekend gemaakt voor de 80e herdenking in 2025 van het vallen van de atoombom op Nagasaki.
In samenspraak en nauw overleg met het Japanse comité, het Kizuna comité en de Nederlandse Ambassade in Japan, is er een datum vastgelegd voor een herdenkingsceremonie, die in het teken staat van deze 80e herdenking. Deze ceremonie zal plaatsvinden bij het monument Fukuoka14b in Nagasaki op zaterdag 10 mei 2025. Voor deze ceremonie hebben zich inmiddels een aantal nabestaanden en betrokkenen aangemeld.

Uitnodiging van de Japanse Ambassadeur:
De Stichting had een uitnodiging ontvangen van de Japanse Ambassadeur en zijn vrouw, voor de receptie op 21 februari j.l. ter ere van de 46e verjaardag van de Keizer van Japan. Onze voorzitter was hierbij aanwezig en heeft diverse gesprekken gehad met Ambassadeurs en vertegenwoordigers van diverse ambassades, waaronder die van Amerika. Zij waren zeer onder de indruk van het verhaal en monument. Na vele visitekaartjes uitgewisseld te hebben, heeft de voorzitter de Japanse Ambassadeur bedankt voor de uitnodiging en hem belooft op de hoogte te houden van de verdere ontwikkelingen.
Nederlandse Defensietak in Japan
De Nederlandse Defensietak in Japan heeft het monument Fukuoka 14b in hun hart gesloten. In 2023 heeft een delegatie van de Nederlandse Defensie Academie een bezoek gebracht aan Nagasaki en hebben ze een ceremonie gehouden bij het monument Fukuoka 14b en een krans gelegd. Hierbij waren 50 mensen aanwezig. Ook in juni 2024 (planning) willen ze wederom een ceremonie houden en een krans leggen. Dit is natuurlijk voor alle betrokken hartverwarmend.

Tjally Richardson vond bijzondere bewaard gebleven documenten en brieven van haar vader Koos van Houten, in een doos op hun zolder. Deze zeer speciale documenten mogen we van Tjally toevoegen aan het testimonium van haar vader op de website, waarvoor onze hartelijk dank.

Dear relatives, all involved and interested parties,
Meeting of relatives and stakeholders at the Bronbeek Estate:
On Sunday February 4th we had a meeting at the Bronbeek estate to which all relatives and those involved were invited. This meeting was very special with new meetings and introductions to relatives who had registered. We had a large turnout with 25 people. A number of relatives from the 3rd generation were also present, which we were very pleased about. Also present was Michel Daeron, documentary maker, who had come especially from France for this purpose. He is busy with his documentary about the 2nd generation of atomic bomb victims.
After introducing those present, the meeting continued with a word of welcome from the chairman, a lecture by the Kizuna committee on the history of the prisoners of war and their experiences in the camp and the dropping of the atomic bomb.
The secretary and treasurer then gave a PowerPoint presentation about the creation of the monument and the official unveiling ceremony of the monument on May 13, 2023.
Plans for 80th commemoration ceremony in 2025:
After this presentation, plans were announced for the 80th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki in 2025.
In consultation and close consultation with the Japanese committee, the Kizuna committee and the Dutch Embassy in Japan, a date has been set for a commemoration ceremony dedicated to this 80th commemoration. This ceremony will take place at the Fukuoka14b monument in Nagasaki on Saturday, May 10, 2025. A number of relatives and involved parties have now registered for this ceremony.

Invitation from the Japanese Ambassador:
The Foundation had received an invitation from the Japanese Ambassador and his wife for the reception on February 21. in honor of the 46th birthday of the Emperor of Japan. Our chairman was present and had several conversations with Ambassadors and representatives of various embassies, including that of America. They were very impressed by the story and monument. After exchanging many business cards, the Chairman thanked the Japanese Ambassador for the invitation and promised to keep him informed of further developments.
Dutch Defense Branch in Japan:
The Dutch Defense Branch in Japan has taken the Fukuoka 14b monument to their hearts. In 2023, a delegation from the Dutch Defense Academy visited Nagasaki and held a ceremony at the Fukuoka 14b monument and laid a wreath. 50 people were present. They also want to hold another ceremony and lay a wreath in June 2024 (planning). This is of course heart-warming for everyone involved.

Tjally Richardson found special preserved documents and letters from her father Koos van Houten in a box in their attic. Tjally has allowed us to add these very special documents to her father’s testimonial on the website, for which we would like to thank her very much.

Geachte nabestaanden, alle betrokkenen en belangstellenden,
Reacties op de onthulling en ceremonie:
Allereerst willen wij als Bestuur Stichting Monument Nagasaki, Kizuna comité en het Japanse comité iedereen, wereldwijd, bedanken voor de overweldigende positieve en hartverwarmende reacties van zowel de nabestaanden, als betrokkenen, belangstellenden en de media over het monument en de officiële ceremoniële onthulling op 13 mei 2023. Wij zij dan ook zeer vereerd en trots dat wij met de enorme inzet van alle betrokkenen, dit voor elkaar hebben gekregen. Nogmaals dank hiervoor.
Nederlandse ambassade in Tokyo en Japanse ambassade in Den Haag
Ruud en zijn vrouw Nelke hadden, namens bestuur en Kizuna, begin juni 2023 een meeting met ambassadeur Peter van der Vliet en plaatsvervangend ambassadeur Theo Peters op de Nederlandse ambassade in Tokyo. Theo Peters was namens de Nederlandse ambassade bij de onthulling monument Fukuoka 14b op 13 mei 2023. Beiden waren erg onder de indruk van de realisatie van het monument Fukuoka 14b. Ook het Japanse Comité kreeg veel waardering voor hun betrokkenheid en tomeloze inzet.
Begin juli 2023 hebben Rob en Ruud een bezoek gebracht aan de Japanse ambassade in Den Haag. We hebben gesproken met de ambassadeur his Excellency de heer Hiroshi Minami.
Met beide ambassades hebben we gesproken over het verzoeningsinitiatief, Peace Exchange Program (PEP) van Japanse BZ en het Nederlands Indisch Platform om voor de tweede generatie Hibukashi Japan te bezoeken en natuurlijk ook monument Fukuoka 14b. We blijven als bestuur hier aandacht voor vragen.
Ook is uitgebreid gesproken over hoe belangrijk het is en de noodzaak om te blijven herdenken. Daarbij kwam ook naar voren dat in 2025 met de 80e herdenking van het vallen van de atoombommen, er in Japan grootse ceremonies zullen gaan plaatsvinden, De vraag aan ons is gesteld wat onze plannen hierbij zijn t.a.v. monument Fukuoka 14b. Onderstaand hierover meer informatie.

In navolging van onze vorige nieuwsbrief, willen wij u alvast op de hoogte brengen van de plannen voor de 80e herdenking van het vallen van de atoombom op Nagasaki. Die grote herdenking vindt plaats op 9 augustus 2025.
In overleg met het Japanse comité, Kizuna comité en Nederlandse ambassade zijn wij aan het kijken welke opties er zijn om in 2025 een herdenkingsceremonie te organiseren voor kamp Fukuoka 14b. Welke datum en tijd dit uiteindelijk gaat worden zal nog besproken worden. Uiteraard zullen wij u op de hoogte houden van de vorderingen.
Uitnodiging voor samenkomst Landgoed Bronbeek:
Ter voorbereiding op deze 80e ceremonie gaan we een samenkomst organiseren voor alle nabestaanden van Fukuoka 14b, betrokkenen en belangstellenden op Landgoed Bronbeek (tehuis voor veteranen en museum) in Arnhem. ( Zie link) Kumpulan Reünie- en Congrescentrum | Landgoed Bronbeek Arnhem
Onder het genot van een drankje, kunnen wij nader kennis maken met elkaar en de ervaringen delen met de deelnemers die op 13 mei 2023 in Nagasaki erbij waren.
Ook maken we dan de plannen kenbaar voor de herdenking in 2025.
We sluiten af met een Indonesisch buffet.
De datum voor deze samenkomst zal zijn op zondag 4 februari 2024, aanvang 14.30 uur.
De koffie met spekkoek en 1 consumptie wordt aangeboden door de Stichting. De overige kosten zijn voor eigen rekening. Als u hierbij aanwezig wilt zijn en deel wilt nemen aan het Indonesisch buffel, meld je dan vóór 14 januari 2024 aan bij Rob Schouten via mail rolida@telfort.nl of op zijn 06 50 26 50 06. Op de website www.fukuoka14b.org hebben we foto’s en filmpje van de onthulling en ceremonie toegevoegd onder de tab monument/onthulling. Het testimonium van Lex Meijer hebben we mogen toevoegen. Hiervoor willen wij Ron en Jaqueline Meijer hartelijk bedanken.
Uiteraard staan we open en zou het heel fijn zijn, om nog meer testimoniums te mogen ontvangen. Als we u hierbij kunnen helpen, neem gerust contact op met Rob of Ruud.

Reactions to the unveiling and ceremony:
First of all, we as the Board of the Nagasaki Monument Foundation, Kizuna Committee and the Japanese Committee would like to thank everyone, worldwide, for the overwhelming positive and heart-warming responses from the relatives, as well as those involved, interested parties and the media about the monument and the official ceremonial unveiling on May 13. 2023. We are therefore very honored and proud that we have achieved this with the enormous efforts of everyone involved. Thanks again for this.
Dutch embassy in Tokyo and Japanese embassy in The Hague
Ruud and his wife Nelke, on behalf of the board and Kizuna, had a meeting with Ambassador Peter van der Vliet and Deputy Ambassador Theo Peters at the Dutch Embassy in Tokyo in early June 2023. Theo Peters was at the unveiling of the Fukuoka 14b monument on behalf of the Dutch embassy on May 13, 2023. Both were very impressed by the realization of the Fukuoka 14b monument. The Japanese Committee also received great appreciation for their involvement and tireless efforts.
At the beginning of July 2023, Rob and Ruud visited the Japanese embassy in The Hague. We spoke with Ambassador His Excellency Mr. Hiroshi Minami.
We discussed the reconciliation initiative, the Peace Exchange Program (PEP) of Japanese Foreign Affairs and the Dutch East Indies Platform for the second generation of Hibukashi to visit Japan and of course also the Fukuoka 14b monument with both embassies. As a board, we continue to draw attention to this.
There has also been extensive discussion about how important it is and the need to continue to commemorate. It also emerged that in 2025, with the 80th commemoration of the dropping of the atomic bombs, major ceremonies will take place in Japan. We were asked what our plans are with regard to the Fukuoka 14b monument. More information about this below.
Plans for 80th ceremony in 2025:
Following on from our previous newsletter, we would like to inform you in advance of the plans for the 80th commemoration of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki. That major commemoration will take place on August 9, 2025.
In consultation with the Japanese committee, Kizuna committee and Dutch embassy, we are looking at what options there are to organize a commemoration ceremony for camp Fukuoka 14b in 2025. What date and time this will ultimately be will still be discussed. We will of course keep you informed of the progress.
Invitation Bronbeek Estate meeting:
In preparation for this 80th ceremony, we will organize a meeting for all relatives of Fukuoka 14b, those involved and interested parties at the Bronbeek Estate (home for veterans and museum) in Arnhem. (See link) Kumpulan Reünie- en Congrescentrum | Landgoed Bronbeek Arnhem
While enjoying a drink, we can get to know each other better and share the experiences with the participants who were there in Nagasaki on May 13, 2023.
We will also announce the plans for the commemoration in 2025.

The date for this meeting will be on Sunday, February 4, 2024, starting at 2:30 PM.

Monument Fukuoka 14b te Nagasaki:
In onze vorige nieuwsbrief hebben wij u al op de hoogte gebracht van de laatste ontwikkelingen omtrent het monument.
Met gepaste trots kunnen wij u melden dat, in het bijzijn van nabestaanden, afgevaardigden en Defensie Attachés van de Australische-, Amerikaanse-, Britse- en Nederlandse Ambassades, de gemeente Nagasaki, het Japanse Comité, het Kizuna Comité, POW Research Network Japan, Bestuur Stichting Monument Nagasaki, studenten van de Universiteit van Nagasaki en vele belangstellenden, het Monument voor de krijgsgevangenen van kamp Fukuoka14b en hun nabestaanden,
officieel ceremonieel is onthuld op zaterdag 13 mei 2023
Het was een prachtige, memorabele en emotionele ceremonie bij het monument. Na afloop van de ceremonie bij het monument, was er een voortzetting ceremonie in het A-bom museum, met vele indrukwekkende speeches. En om 11.02 uur was er een moment stilte. Hierna was er een receptie en lunch, welke mede werd aangeboden door de Nederlandse Ambassade in Tokyo, waarvoor onze hartelijke dank.
Ook de muzikale omlijsting door het koor van studenten en de band Love and Peace maakte het geheel meer dan compleet.
Het was een zeer indrukwekkende ceremonie c.q. dag, welke tot in de perfectie was geregeld en verzorgd door het Japanse Comité. We willen het Japanse Comité hartelijk danken voor hun enorme inzet bij het tot stand komen van het monument en de perfecte organisatie van de ceremonie. Chapeau…..
Ook onze dank en waardering gaat uit naar onze ‘steun en toeverlaat’ Yoko Huijs en naar Ruud van Kraaij voor zijn inzet als secretaris en penningmeester.
Media:
Ook de media uit binnen- en buitenland waren vertegenwoordigd en hebben op gepaste en respectvolle wijze verslag uitgebracht van de ceremonie in diverse kranten (o.a. in Trouw), online nieuws sites en televisie. Waarvoor onze dank.
Documentaire:
Onze dank gaat ook uit naar Michel Daëron en zijn team, die met passie, geduld en toewijding, enorm veel shots hebben gemaakt van dit project. Wij hopen dat mede hierdoor er een fantastische documentaire uit voort zal komen.
Het Japanse Comité heeft kenbaar gemaakt, dat elk jaar op de tweede zaterdag in mei, een kleine ingetogen ceremonie zal plaats vinden bij het monument.
Ook gaan we nadenken hoe we vorm kunnen gaan geven aan de grotere herdenkingen, bijvoorbeeld in 2025 bij de 80-jarige herdenking van het vallen van de atoombom.
Tijdens het werkbezoek aan de Nederlandse Ambassade in Tokyo, waar we gesproken hebben met Peter van der Vliet, Ambassadeur, Theo Peters, Deputy Head of Mission en Bas Valckx, Public Diplomacy, Political and Cultural Affairs, over
de onthulling van de 13e mei j.l, hebben we ook gesproken over de toekomst van het monument, onderhoud en ceremonies en nog andere initiatieven.
In een volgende nieuwsbrief komen we hier nader op terug.

Uiteraard hebben wij uitgebreid verslag gedaan van de officiële ceremoniële onthulling van het monument. Onder de webpagina bij de tab monument / onthulling is een speciale pagina aangemaakt met o.a. informatie, foto’s en filmpjes van de onthulling en ceremonie op 13 mei 2023. Binnenkort zal er weer een nadere update plaatsvinden van de website.
Op de website staan inmiddels 14 indrukwekkende testimoniums van krijgsgevangen. We doen hierbij opnieuw een oproep aan nabestaanden om een testimonium te schrijven over hun vader en/of opa. Als u er vragen over heeft en/of hulp hierbij wenst, neem dan gerust contact op met Rob of Ruud.

Monument Fukuoka 14b in Nagasaki:
In our previous newsletter we have already informed you about the latest developments regarding the monument.
We are proud to announce that, in the presence of relatives, Delegates and Defense Attachés of the Australian-American-British and Dutch Embassies, the Municipality of Nagasaki, the Japan Committee, the Kizuna Committee, POW Research Network Japan, Nagasaki Monument Foundation , students of Nagasaki University and many interested parties, the Monument to the POWs of Camp Fukuoka14b and their relatives,
officially ceremonially unveiled on Saturday, May 13, 2023
It was a beautiful, memorable and emotional ceremony at the monument. After the ceremony at the monument, there was a continuation ceremony at the A-bomb museum, with many impressive speeches. And at 11:02 am there was a moment of silence. After this there was a reception and lunch, which was also offered by the Dutch Embassy in Tokyo, for which we thank them very much.
The musical accompaniment by the choir of students and the band Love and Peace also made the whole more than complete.
It was a very impressive ceremony and day, which was arranged to perfection by the Japanese Committee. We would like to thank the Japanese Committee for their enormous effort in the realization of the monument and the perfect organization of the ceremony. Chapeau…..
Our thanks and appreciation also go to our ‘support and aid Yoko Huijs and to Ruud van Kraaij for his efforts as secretary and treasurer.

The media from the Netherlands and abroad were also represented and reported appropriately and respectfully on the ceremony in various newspapers (including Trouw), online news sites and television. For which we thank you.
Documentary:
Our thanks also go to Michel Daëron and his team, who have made a lot of shots of this project with passion, patience and dedication. We hope that this will result in a fantastic documentary.
Annual Commemoration:
The Japanese Committee has announced that every year on the second Saturday in May, a small, modest ceremony will take place at the monument. We will also consider how we can shape the larger commemorations, for example in 2025 at the 80th anniversary of the dropping of the atom bomb.
During the working visit to the Dutch Embassy in Tokyo, where we spoke with Peter van der Vliet, Ambassador, Theo Peters, Deputy Head of Mission and Bas Valckx, Public Diplomacy, Political and Cultural Affairs, about the unveiling of May 13th, we also discussed the future of the monument, maintenance and ceremonies and other initiatives. We will return to this in more detail in a future newsletter.

Of course we have extensively reported on the official ceremonial unveiling of the monument. A special page has been created under the webpage under the tab monument / unveiling, including information, photos and videos of the unveiling and ceremony on May 13, 2023. There will be a further update of the website soon.
The website now contains 14 impressive testimonials from prisoners of war. We hereby again appeal to relatives to write a testimonial about their father and/or grandfather. Allereerst willen wij u een voorspoedig, gezond en gelukkig nieuwjaar wensen.
Graag willen wij u informeren over de huidige stand van zaken omtrent het monument Fukuoka 14b te Nagasaki en de website https://fukuoka14b.org/
Monument Fukuoka 14b te Nagasaki:
In onze vorige nieuwsbrief hebben wij u al op de hoogte gebracht van de laatste ontwikkelingen omtrent de officiële ceremoniële onthulling van het monument, welke gepland staat op zaterdag 13 mei a.s. Deze datum staat nu definitief vast.
Covid 19
De laatste ontwikkelingen van het reisadvies voor Japan van Buitenlandse Zaken, is dat Japan voor het grootste deel ‘groen’ is, wat betekent dat toeristen weer worden toegelaten. Er zijn wel inreisvoorwaarden ingesteld, welke u kunt vinden op de website of app van Buitenlandse Zaken.
Draaiboek
In nauw overleg met de Nederlandse Ambassade in Japan, het Japanse comité en Kizuna comité hebben we, naar aanleiding van ons laatste overleg, een voorlopige versie van het draaiboek opgesteld. Deze gaat via Yoko Huijs naar het Japanse comité in Nagasaki. Zij gaan verder beoordelen in hoeverre dit draaiboek past in hun schema en dat van alle verdere betrokkenen in Nagasaki, zoals de Gemeente en het Atoombommuseum. Zodra het draaiboek gereed en goedgekeurd is, krijgt u het programma.
Uitnodiging
Hierbij nodigen we u van harte uit, om bij deze bijzondere gebeurtenis aanwezig te zijn. We hopen op uw aanwezigheid bij de ceremoniële onthulling en aansluitend bij de receptie. Een aantal nabestaanden, waaronder Annette Speijers, hebben zich al gemeld en tickets en hotels geboekt. Annette wil op 15 mei a.s. het Mizumaki monument gaan bezoeken, waar haar opa genoemd staat. Documentaire
Wij zijn zeer vereerd dat een Franse documentairemaker, waar wij al enige tijd mee in gesprek zijn, een documentaire gaat maken over het monument, de voorgeschiedenis en een aantal betrokkenen. Wij hopen dat deze documentaire zal bijdragen aan het totaalplaatje van het monument en alles wat daar mee samenhangt.

In our previous newsletter we have already informed you about the latest developments regarding the official ceremonial unveiling of the monument, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 13. This date is now definitive.
COVID-19.
The latest developments in the travel advice for Japan from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is that Japan is largely ‘green’, which means that tourists are allowed back in. Entry conditions have been set, which you can find on the Foreign Affairs website or app.
Script
In close consultation with the Dutch Embassy in Japan, the Japanese Committee and the Kizuna Committee, we have drawn up a provisional version of the scenario following our last consultation. This goes via Yoko Huijs to the Japanese committee in Nagasaki. They will further assess the extent to which this scenario fits into their schedule and that of all other parties involved in Nagasaki, such as the Municipality and the Atomic Bomb Museum. As soon as the scenario is ready and approved, you will receive the program.
Invitation
We hereby cordially invite you to be present at this special event. We hope for your presence at the ceremonial unveiling and subsequent reception. We hope for many registrations. Unfortunately, we have to inform you that the travel and accommodation costs for this will be for your own account. Your presence is highly appreciated. Please let us know if you can attend, and if so, with how many people.
Representatives from the Dutch, Australian, American and British Embassies will also be present. Mr. Taue, Mayor of Nagasaki is also invited.
A number of relatives, including Annette Speijers, have already reported and booked tickets and hotels. Annette wants to visit the Mizumaki monument on May 15, where her grandfather is mentioned. Documentary
We are very honored that a French documentary maker, with whom we have been talking for some time, will make a documentary about the monument, its history and a number of people involved. We hope that this documentary will contribute to the overall picture of the monument and everything related to it.

Graag willen wij u informeren over de huidige stand van zaken omtrent het monument Fukuoka 14b te Nagasaki en de website http://Fukuoka14b.org
Monument Fukuoka 14b Nagasaki:
In onze vorige nieuwsbrief hebben wij u al op de hoogte gebracht van de laatste ontwikkelingen omtrent de restricties welke Japan in acht neemt, aangaande het toelaten van toeristen en de daarbij geldende reisdocumenten.
Covid 19
De laatste ontwikkelingen van het reisadvies voor Japan van Buitenlandse Zaken, is dat Japan voor het grootste deel ‘groen’ is, wat betekent dat toeristen weer worden toegelaten. Er zijn wel inreisvoorwaarden ingesteld, welke u kunt vinden op de website of app van Buitenlandse Zaken.
Nieuwe datum
In nauw overleg met de Nederlandse Ambassade in Japan, het Japanse comité en Kizuna comité hebben we naar aanleiding van dit goede nieuws, besloten om een nieuwe datum te plannen voor de officiële onthulling en wel op zaterdag 13 mei 2023. Binnenkort komt het bestuur van de stichting en het Kizuna comité weer samen om over de invulling en verdere details te vergaderen en het draaiboek te updaten. Wij houden u uiteraard op de hoogte van de ontwikkelingen.
Bezoek Ambassadeur aan monumenten
10 september j.l. heeft de Nederlandse Ambassadeur, de heer Peter van der Vliet, een krans gelegd bij het monument van Kamp 14 en Kamp 2. Yoko Huijs, van het Kizuna comité, heeft een ontmoeting met hem gehad, samen met het Japanse comité. De Ambassadeur heeft een lunch aangeboden om hen te bedanken voor hun inzet.
Toekomst monument
Yoko heeft, tijdens haar verblijf met haar gezin in Japan, gesproken met het Japanse comité over de toekomst van het monument. Met name het betrekken van de jonge generatie bij dit project. Wij hebben voorgesteld om het monument te laten adopteren door studenten van de universiteit van Nagasaki. Deze optie is meegenomen in het overleg. Wordt vervolgt.

Inmiddels heeft Tjally Richardson, dochter van Jacobus (Koos) van Houten, het testimonium van haar vader aan de stichting aangeboden, welke wij toegevoegd hebben op onze website (onder het tabblad ‘krijgsgevangenen’). Tjally, onze hartelijke dank voor het opstellen van dit testimonium.

In our previous newsletter we already informed you about the latest developments regarding the restrictions that Japan observes regarding the admission of tourists and the applicable travel documents.
COVID-19

New date
In close consultation with the Dutch Embassy in Japan, the Japanese committee and Kizuna committee, we have decided in response to this good news to plan a new date for the official unveiling on Saturday 13 May 2023. The board of the foundation and the Kizuna committee together again to discuss the implementation and further details and to update the script. We will of course keep you informed of developments.
Visit Ambassador to Monuments
September 10th. the Dutch Ambassador, Mr. Peter van der Vliet, laid a wreath at the monument of Camp 14 and Camp 2. Yoko Huijs, of the Kizuna committee, met him, together with the Japanese committee. The Ambassador offered a lunch to thank them for their efforts.
Future monument
During her stay with her family in Japan, Yoko spoke with the Japanese committee about the future of the monument. In particular, involving the young generation in this project. We have proposed that the monument be adopted by students from the University of Nagasaki. This option has been included in the consultation. To be continued.

福岡俘虜収容所第14分所追悼記念碑建立委員会事務局長・井原俊也氏
感謝と追悼のことば
（1963年5月24日－2022年7月1日）
去る7月1日に長崎の福岡俘虜収容所第14分所追悼記念碑建立委員会の事務局長・井原俊也氏が逝去されました。59歳という若さで私たちのもとから旅立たれた氏には、もっとやりたいことがたくさんあっただろうと心が痛みます。
井原氏は父親である故・井原東洋一氏（2019年没。享年83歳）とともに地元長崎を中心に平和活動に力を注いで来られました。東洋一氏は被爆者一世として、同じ被爆者を含む戦争被害者のために長年精力的な活動をされ、長崎県被爆者手帳友の会会長として核廃絶運動に大きな功績を残されました。オランダ関係では香焼にあった福岡俘虜収容所第2分所の追悼慰霊碑建立プロジェクトの中心人物だった方です。
俊也氏は友の会事務局長役を担い、また第2分所と第14分所双方のプロジェクト運営に尽力されました。さらに数多くの映画や、第2分所の捕虜だった方の息子アンドレ・スクラム氏が出版した「ヨハンの物語」を使って、反戦と非核のための啓蒙活動を繰り広げてくださっていました。井原東洋一氏と俊也氏が「ヨハンの物語」を紹介する場面がニュースに取り上げられましたので、そのリンクをここに添付します。
井原俊也氏のこれまでの貢献、特に俘虜関係者たちのためのご尽力に対し、ここにオランダ捕虜関係者全員から、改めて心から尊敬と感謝を捧げ、ご冥福をお祈りいたします。
井原氏のご遺族、知人の皆様に対し、ここに謹んでお悔やみ申し上げます。ご葬儀にあたりましては関係者からの追悼の意を込め、お花を贈らせていただきました。
少し前にこの俊也氏と父・東洋一氏の志を継ごうと、兄・和洋（かずひろ）氏が故郷長崎に戻って来られたと聞き及んでおります。彼の存在は私たち平和活動を続ける者たちの大きな力添えとなることでしょう。和洋氏の決意に対しましても、深く感謝申し上げます。
