Herdenkingsceremonie op 10 mei 2025
Op 10 mei j.l. heeft de Stichting Monument Nagasaki en het Kizuna comité, samen met het Japanse comité, een indrukwekkende herdenkingsceremonie gehouden bij monument Fukuoka 14b in Nagasaki. Deze stond in het teken van de 80e herdenking van de Atoombomaanval op Hiroshima op 6 augustus en Nagasaki op 9 augustus 1945. In aanwezigheid van ca. 90 genodigden, waaronder nabestaanden van de 2e, 3e en 4e generatie, vertegenwoordigers van de Nederlandse-, Engelse-, Australische- en Amerikaanse Ambassade, Gemeente Nagasaki, studenten, en heel veel pers en media uit binnen en buitenland, waaronder de NOS en NHK World.
Na het welkomstwoord van dhr. Hirano, vice voorzitter van het Japanse Comité, werd de Last Post gespeeld. Daarna was het exact 11:02 uur, en werd er een minuut stilte gehouden voor alle slachtoffers van deze verschrikkelijke tragedie.
Daarna waren er toespraken van onze voorzitter Rob Schouten, Gevolmachtigd Minister Dhr. Rob Anderson van de Nederlandse Ambassade, en een ontroerende toespraak van Annette Speijers, samen met haar dochter Saar (over hun opa en overgrootvader). Daarna werden er kransen en bloemen gelegd bij het monument.
Na afloop van de ceremonie gingen alle genodigden per bus naar het nieuwe Nagasaki Stadium City, ofwel het Peace Stadium in Nagasaki voor de lunch en de voorzetting van het programma.
Deze locatie is een heel bijzondere en eerbiedwaardige plek. Hier stond ooit het kamp Fukuoka 14B. De fundamenten van het kamp bevinden zich nog onder het Nagasaki Stadium City.
Ruud van Kraaij heette namens Bestuur Stichting alle genodigden van harte welkom. Er waren toespraken van Dhr. Tomonaga, voorzitter Japanse comite, Dick Alssema, namens alle betrokken defensie attaches, Olaf en Edith Krijgsman en Ron Meijer als nabestaanden. Shigeru Kawakubo, van het Japanse comite, bracht het lied Imagine van John Lennon ten gehore en nodigde Rob uit op het podium om mee te zingen.
Deze gedenkwaardige dag werd afgesloten door Ruud en Rob, van het bestuur stichting, met een dankwoord aan alle betrokkenen en in het bijzonder voor de steun van het Kizuna Comité.
Het bestuur bedankte ook uitgebreid het Japanse comité voor hun tomeloze inzet met een kadobon. Het waren 2 indrukwekkende dagen, die tot in perfectie waren geregeld. Domo Arigato.
De jaarlijkse herdenking bij monument Fukuoka 14b in Nagasaki is steeds op de 2e zaterdag van mei.
Herdenking in Groningen op 6 augustus 2025
Op 6 augustus 2025 vindt in Groningen een herdenking plaats van de atoombom op Hiroshima. De organisatie Groningen voor Vrede herdenkt dit jaar het 80e jubileum van de atoombom. Groningen voor Vrede houdt die avond een herdenking bij het anti atoombom monument. De organisatie heeft ons benaderd en uitgenodigd om hierbij aanwezig te zijn. Rob Schouten, voorzitter van bestuur Stichting Monument Nagasaki zal eveneens hierbij een toespraak houden.
Sunset March in Nijmegen op 9 augustus 2025
De Sunset March in Nijmegen is een dagelijks eerbetoon aan de geallieerde militairen, die gevochten hebben voor de vrijheid van Nederland. Zie link
Sunset March – A March to Remember those who fought for our Freedom
Onze stichting heeft zich hiervoor ingeschreven voor de 9e augustus a.s. en zal de Sunset March in het teken staan van de 80e herdenking van de atoombomaanval op Nagasaki en alle slachtoffers. Iedereen die mee wil lopen met deze march, is van harte welkom. Meer informatie hierover volgt zo spoedig mogelijk.

Commemoration ceremony on May 10, 2025
On May 10, the Nagasaki Monument Foundation and the Kizuna Committee, together with the Japanese Committee, held an impressive commemoration ceremony at the Fukuoka 14b monument in Nagasaki. This was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima on August 6 and Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. In the presence of approximately 90 guests, including relatives of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation, representatives of the Dutch, English, Australian and American Embassies, the Municipality of Nagasaki, students, and many press and media from home and abroad, including the NOS and NHK World.
After the welcoming speech by Mr. Hirano, vice chairman of the Japanese Committee, the Last Post was played. Then it was exactly 11:02, and a minute of silence was held for all the victims of this terrible tragedy.
Then there were speeches by our Chairman Rob Schouten, Mr. Rob Anderson Minister Plenipotentiary of the Dutch Embassy, and a moving speech by Annette Speijers, together with her daughter Saar (about their grandfather and great-grandfather). Then wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument.
After the ceremony, all the guests went by bus to the new Nagasaki Stadium City, or the Peace Stadium in Nagasaki for lunch and the continuation of the program.
This location is a very special and venerable place. Camp Fukuoka 14B once stood here. The foundations of the camp are still under Nagasaki Stadium City.
Ruud van Kraaij, on behalf of the Board of the Foundation, warmly welcomed all the guests. There were speeches by Mr. Tomonaga, chairman of the Japanese committee, Dick Alssema, on behalf of all the defense attaches involved, Olaf and Edith Krijgsman and Ron Meijer as relatives. Shigeru Kawakubo, from the Japanese committee, performed the song Imagine by John Lennon and invited Rob to sing along.
This memorable day was concluded by Ruud and Rob, from the foundation board, with a word of thanks to all those involved and in particular for the support of the Kizuna Committee.
The board also thanked the Japanese committee extensively for their tireless efforts with a gift voucher. These were 2 impressive days, which were arranged to perfection. Domo Arigato.
The annual commemoration at the Fukuoka 14b monument in Nagasaki is always on the 2nd Saturday of May.
Commemoration in Groningen on August 6, 2025
On August 6, 2025, a commemoration of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima will take place in Groningen. The organization Groningen for Peace commemorates the 80th anniversary of the atomic bomb this year. Groningen for Peace will hold a commemoration that evening at the anti-atomic bomb monument. The organization has approached us and invited us to be present. Rob Schouten, Chairman of the board of the Foundation Monument Nagasaki will also give a speech.
Sunset March in Nijmegen on August 9, 2025
The Sunset March in Nijmegen is a daily tribute to the allied soldiers who fought for the freedom of the Netherlands. See link Sunset March – A March to Remember those who fought for our Freedom
Our foundation has registered for this event for August 9th and the Sunset March will be dedicated to the 80th commemoration of the atomic bomb attack on Nagasaki and all victims. Everyone who wants to join this march is very welcome. More information about this will follow as soon as possible.
