Geachte nabestaanden, alle betrokkenen en belangstellenden,
Graag willen wij u informeren over de huidige stand van zaken omtrent het monument Fukuoka 14b te Nagasaki en de website http://Fukuoka14b.org
Monument Fukuoka 14b Nagasaki:
In onze vorige nieuwsbrief hebben wij u al op de hoogte gebracht van een nieuwe datum, zaterdag 3 september 2022, waarop wij de officiële ceremoniële onthulling zouden laten plaatsvinden.
Covid 19
De laatste ontwikkelingen voor het reisadvies Japan is weliswaar dat het grootste deel van Japan ‘groen’ is, echter toeristen worden niet toegelaten. De verwachting is wel dat de komende tijd er mondjesmaat buitenlandse gasten worden toegelaten met een vereist visum.
In nauw overleg met de Nederlandse Ambassade in Japan, het Japanse comité en Kizuna comité hebben we helaas, door bovengenoemde blijvende onzekerheid, moeten besluiten om wederom (helaas voor de 3e keer), de onthulling van het monument niet te laten doorgaan. Wij snappen dat dit voor velen weer een grote teleurstelling is. Derhalve hebben wij besloten, eerst een nieuwe datum te plannen nadat Japan weer toeristen toelaat, zodat we hopelijk dan voldoende zekerheid hebben, dat we naar Japan kunnen reizen.
Uiteraard zitten wij niet stil.
In april j.l. heeft Yoko Huijs, van het Kizuna comité, een ontmoeting gehad met de heer Taue, burgemeester van Nagasaki, samen met het Japanse comité, om onze plannen voor de officiële ceremoniële onthulling uitgebreid te bespreken. Dit was een zeer constructief gesprek. Tevens is de burgemeester uitgenodigd om bij de officiële ceremonie aanwezig te zijn. Daarna zijn er bloemen gelegd bij het monument met een korte herdenking, waarvoor onze hartelijke dank.
Draaiboek onthulling monument
Als bestuur zijn we volop doende met het vormgeven van het draaiboek voor de onthulling monument. Met de onmisbare steun van het Japanse Comité hadden we al opties genomen op enkele locaties. Helaas moeten we deze nu ook annuleren en gaan we weer verder met het draaiboek, zodra we een nieuwe (4e) datum voor de onthulling gepland hebben.
Flyer monument
Ook heeft de heer Hirano, van het Japanse comité, in overleg met de Stichting en Kizuna, 10.000 flyers van het monument met het verhaal achter Fukuoka POW Kamp 14B laten drukken en deze zijn/worden uitgedeeld onder de studenten en belangstellenden van Nagasaki. Hiermee blijft het verhaal levend voor de volgende generaties. Uiteraard hebben wij, als Stichting, ook de beschikking over deze flyers. Wilt u ook een flyer ontvangen, laat het ons dan even weten.
Informatie
Ook zijn inmiddels door ons, alle verdere betrokkenen, zoals de Japanse ambassadeur in Nederland en ook al onze funders van het monument, geinformeeerd over ons besluit.

De belangstelling voor de website is erg groot, wereldwijd loggen veel mensen in op de website. Dat is natuurlijk zeer positief.
Inmiddels heeft zich Tjally Richardson, dochter van Jacobus (Koos) van Houten gemeld bij ons. Deze nabestaande is blij verrast met het monument en onze plannen over de onthulling hiervan. Ook zij schrijft een testimonium over haar vader, welke we dan zullen plaatsen op de website.
Naast dat we deze nieuwsbrief digitaal versturen, zal deze ook weer gepubliceerd worden op de website, zodat eenieder op de hoogte blijft van het laatste nieuws.
Heeft u nog ideeën of suggesties voor de website, dan horen wij dat uiteraard graag.

We would like to inform you about the current state of affairs regarding the Fukuoka 14b monument in Nagasaki and the website http://Fukuoka14b.org

In our previous newsletter we already informed you of a new date, Saturday September 3, 2022, on which we would have the official ceremonial unveiling.
COVID-19
The latest developments for the Japan travel advice is that most of Japan is ‘green’, but tourists are not allowed. It is expected that in the near future foreign guests will be admitted with a required visa.
In close consultation with the Dutch Embassy in Japan, the Japanese committee and Kizuna committee, we unfortunately had to decide, due to the above-mentioned lasting uncertainty, not to let the unveiling of the monument take place again (unfortunately for the 3rd time). We understand that this is a big disappointment for many. Therefore we have decided to plan a new date first after Japan allows tourists again, so that hopefully we have enough certainty that we can travel to Japan.
Of course we don’t sit still.
In April last Yoko Huijs, of the Kizuna Committee, met Mr. Taue, Mayor of Nagasaki, along with the Japanese Committee, to discuss in detail our plans for the official ceremonial unveiling. This was a very constructive conversation. The mayor has also been invited to attend the official ceremony. After that, flowers were laid at the monument with a short commemoration, for which we thank you very much.
Script unveiling monument
As a board, we are busy designing the script for the unveiling of the monument. With the indispensable support of the Japanese Committee, we had already taken options in a few locations. Unfortunately, we now also have to cancel it and we will continue with the script as soon as we have planned a new (4th) date for the unveiling.
flyer monument
Also, Mr. Hirano, of the Japanese committee, in consultation with the Foundation and Kizuna, had 10,000 flyers of the monument with the story behind Fukuoka POW Camp 14B printed and distributed among the students and interested parties of Nagasaki. This keeps the story alive for future generations. Of course we, as a foundation, also have access to these flyers. If you would also like to receive a flyer, please let us know.
Information
We, all other parties involved, such as the Japanese ambassador in the Netherlands and all our funders of the monument have now also been informed about our decision.

The interest in the website is very high, many people worldwide log on to the website. That is of course very positive.
In the meantime Tjally Richardson, daughter of Jacobus (Koos) van Houten has reported to us. This relative is pleasantly surprised with the monument and our plans for its unveiling. She also writes a testimonial about her father, which we will then place on the website.
In addition to sending this newsletter digitally, it will also be published on the website, so that everyone is kept informed of the latest news.
